In addition to analytical and problem-solving skills, an IT support employee must also have a number of soft skills:

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Strong communication skills are a must for IT professionals. They need to communicate with users, colleagues, external service providers and suppliers. The ability to clearly communicate and understand ideas and concepts is essential for anyone who wants to be successful in IT service delivery.

PATIENCE

Users turn to IT support when things are not working properly or when technology fails. Users are often frustrated because they cannot perform their tasks, or they are nervous because of approaching deadlines. 

In these stressful situations, IT support professionals need to remain empathetic, patient and calm.

TEAMWORK

IT professionals frequently need to collaborate with other departments and teams to deliver projects. The ability to work as part of a team is as important, as the ability to work independently if not more so.

IT support is a very challenging but equally rewarding position. To be successful in this role, a love of technology must be complemented by a talent for problem solving and a genuine desire to help people.
